Circa 1860 Rococo pier table, console table, Brazilian rosewood, strip laminated deep serpentine skirt, New York City, attr J&JW Meeks, most unusual original marble top with extended back and middle extension to fit into a wall alcove, desirable and rarely seen form mirroring a center table mounted on an architectural pilaster columned and framed back mirror, deep serpentine skirt and well molded cabriole legs, carved cartouches on skirt and legs, diamond paneled skirt, reticulated scrolled stretcher with turned center finial. Brand - Rococo.
33.5” tall, 51” wide, 20” deep with 1” extended back (+ 2” by 35” wide alcove extension on marble).
Condition – excellent untouched original condition, original French polish finish shows mild crazing, missing rear pc of molding under marble and a top left corner pc on mirror. 1449
- This is a rare form pier table that is 4” taller than a compatible center table.
- Other very possible makers could be EW Hutchins, H Iden, A Roux all high quality New York City mid 1800 cabinetmakers.
- This item has always been a pier table with alcove wall spot marble top. A nearly identical piece is known with the same base in etagere form (see last photo).
